We have an incredible passion for what we do, with the sole purpose of creating memorable experiences for you.

Be the first to review

Opening in 2019, Vitis House is North Carolina’s newest wine school, joining the North Carolina Wine Academy and the Asheville School of Wine/MW Wine School. The school has been widely accepted and celebrated in its local community, with positive articles from Raleigh Magazine, WRAL, and Charlotte Magazine. Vitis House offers franchised certification programs such as the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and the Wine Scholar Guild, as well as consumer-level wine-tasting classes.

Vitis House distinguishes itself by providing a comprehensive curriculum that covers various aspects of wine education, including viticulture, winemaking techniques, wine regions, and food pairings. Their experienced instructors are industry professionals passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise with students. The school also organizes special events and tastings, allowing students to explore further and appreciate the world of wine. Vitis House has successfully nurtured a community of wine enthusiasts and professionals who continue contributing to the growth and recognition of North Carolina’s wine industry.

Publicity

The school has been widely accepted and celebrated in its local community. Positive articles from Raleigh Magazine, WRAL (the NBC affiliate station), and Charlotte Magazine have celebrated this new wine school.

Many media outlets have erroneously claimed that Vitis House is the state’s first wine school. While we have not reviewed or listed wine schools in NC as of 2023, there has been a thriving wine education culture in this state for many years.

Wine Certifications

Vitis House offers franchised certification programs, including the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and the Wine Scholar Guild. They also offer a wide selection of consumer-level wine-tasting classes.

Offering several weekly classes, this is already one of the biggest wine schools in the US. Only Napa Valley Wine Academy (four classes per week) and the Wine School of Philadelphia (five classes per week) offer more programming. Both of those programs have been in existence for over a decade.

Doreen Colondres, Vitis House Founder

One of the reasons for the success of this wine school is its founder, Doreen Colondres. She has a deep resume in the food and wine world. She was the food and wine editor of Siempre Mujer Magazine, a fashion-forward magazine for Latinas living in the US. She is also a bestselling cookbook author and a regular guest on Spanish-language tv networks Univisión, Fox Life, and Utilísima.
