Uncorked and Decanted in the Kansas City metropolitan area provides wine events throughout western Missouri and eastern Kansas. Classes are offered at Johnson County Community College. Each program comprises three 2 1/2 hour classes, meeting on consecutive weeks.

The wine school was established in 2009 by Frank and Maria Bramwell. They are certified wine professionals, accredited through the Professional Wine Studies Department of the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, California.* Before passing their certification examinations, they spent approximately three years taking classes, studying wine and the industry, and visiting vineyards, wineries, and winemakers. Frank and Maria have traveled and toured extensively throughout the western U.S. wine regions. They have also spent time in Italy.

Frank is a former banker, having spent 30 years banking in Kansas City and Tulsa. He is a native of Oregon and a graduate of the University of California at Davis. Maria is from the Kansas City area. Her background is in journalism, and she is a graduate of Kansas State University. They enjoy spending time at their farm near Greenwood, MO., are Leawood South Country Club members and have extensive experience in corporate entertaining.

Goodbye to A Great Wine School

The pandemic was particularly painful for the wine education sector. Most of the losses were WSET franchises, but some independent wine schools were also affected. Uncorded & Decanted was still offering wine courses through Johnson County Community College up through March 2022 but has since closed its doors. Their programs were respected and one of the few programs available in Missouri. They will be missed.

Frank and Maria are lovely people. We went to a history of champagne event at St. Luke’s and loved it.

Another WSET failure. Why doesn’t WSET refund students when WSET schools close?
